Case Study 3: Microblading Old, Faded PMU

In this case, my client had old, faded eyebrows that I had tattooed 5 years ago and they had faded out quite a bit since then. There was also a trace of another grey-ish faded application of PMU that was done 15 years ago by another tech in Hong Kong. What you see here is very common.

The predominant color had faded to an orange tone and her brows were in need of a reshape and redesign. This is very typical of almost every pigment line that I have used in the past. It’s a good thing the old colors are easy to hide since it’s so faint and faded. It’s a straightforward and easy cover-up with some loose microblading.

When you have any client come back after this long, it’s important that you treat them almost as if it is their first procedure. Ensure that they update their paperwork, in the case that anything has changed with their health, and do a full consultation with them to ensure that you are both on the same page. Whether you did work on them previously or not, their wants and needs may have changed since then, so it is important to get a good understanding of where they are at with their personal style and what they would like to do differently/similarly this time.

This client was so sweet and ideal. Not only did she have great skin that was firm and strong, but she trusted me as the professional and said: “do whatever you think is best”. These clients are such a wonderful challenge because they are a blank canvas to create beautiful brows that will both suit their needs and give them what you as the artist deem to be the most appropriate for them.

So for her, I decided to give her fuller, fluffy eyebrows and bring her up to date since her face is fuller, and fuller brows would brighten her eyes. This wispy, fluffy look gives such a natural healed appearance that no one will ever know that it’s microblading.

Also, since her skin is fair and she doesn’t really wear much makeup, we decided to go for a very minimalist brow definition versus a bold look for her brows. Her old faded color was enough to give some soft definition behind the new hair strokes, which is why I did not shade her brows.
